If you’ve never visited Barbarella, The Linton Kitchen’s little-sister cafe in Cambridge’s Chesterton, you’ve got a treat in store. Petite, pretty and painted pink, it opened mid-pandemic and has fast become known for its “cake cabinet of dreams”, stocked with fan-favourites like carrot cake, vegan muffins, chocolate brownies, frosted layer cakes, stuffed deep-pan cookies and seasonal specials. All are home-baked daily in The Linton Kitchen.

There’s an ever-changing selection of light lunches too, with top-sellers including Grain Culture croissants stuffed with prosciutto, Somerset brie and apricot preserve, and sourdough doorstep sandwiches, variously filled with house-made pesto, hummus, seasonal veggies and British cheeses. Plus there’s a menu of top teas, coffees and cold drinks.

To mark the 10th birthday of its older sister, which opened on Linton’s High Street a decade ago this month, founder Gemma Whiting is giving Velvet readers the chance to win a £50 voucher to spend at Barbarella, which will, she says, “easily cover a lunch for two, washed down with coffee and cake, plus give enough change to take home some treats”.
