What's On: See a stunning scale model of Earth
It’s been displayed in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and at London’s National History Museum. And now Gaia, an awe-inspiring scale model of planet Earth, is coming to The Apex in Bury St Edmunds.
Created by artist Luke Jerram, brains behind the Moon sculpture which attracted 15,000 visitors to the same venue last year, Gaia spans seven metres, is internally lit, and features detailed NASA imagery; 1.8 million times smaller than the real planet, stand 211m away from the artwork and you can see the Earth as it appears from the moon.
Says Luke: “I hope visitors to Gaia get to see the Earth as if from space; an incredibly beautiful and precious place. An ecosystem we urgently need to look after – our only home.”
Gaia is on show from October 3 to 18.To limit visitor numbers in line with social distancing guidelines, 25-minute time slots must be booked in advance at theapex.co.uk . Entry is free but a £3 donation suggested.
