What’s On: Sing and Tonic, a night of uplifting musical escapades!
SING AND TONIC!
Calling all budding Beyoncé’s and Michael Bublés! If you’ve been singing stunning melodies in the shower, but secretly yearn to belt out classics to an appreciative audience, we’ve found the event for you.
Sing and Tonic is an innovative and vibrant pop-up singing experience for people of all ages and abilities, combining the joy of performing with the fun of a drink or two.
Inspired by Marika Newman, an experienced musician from Cambridge, the event – taking place at Cambridge Junction on Thursday, July 27 – includes support from Fred’s House, an award-winning Cambridge band known for its summery, 70’s West Coast inspired folk/rock.
Participants will be invited to learn an epic song in three parts, in a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere, with the support of Marika and Fred’s House.
Speaking ahead of the event, Marika tells Velvet: “Setting up a pop-up choir with a difference has always been a dream of mine and I can't wait to get started! It’s going to be a boozy musical escapade that will show off everyone’s singing talents to their nearest and dearest. Stunning harmonies, drinks with your pals and a top-notch band all in the same night. What’s not to love?”
Marika, who embarked on her singing career from a young age, has been teaching for over 15 years and runs successful contemporary choir, Vocal Remix. She’s also dedicated time to teaching young people at the renowned Stagecoach Performing Arts School and award-winning Bikeshed Youth Theatre – and currently runs performing arts workshops for teenagers with learning disabilities.
