Street Talk: Let’s watch the punts, drink wine and shop on Bridge Street
BID-Sponsored Feature
Where can you gaze at punts gliding down the Cam and sip a cocktail besides the world’s oldest debating chamber? Bridge Street, of course, as Louise Cummings finds out
Welcome to the quintessentially Cambridge Street where you can hop onto a punt for a river-bound tour, savour a glass of wine alfresco or devour a Fitzbillies Chelsea bun! Follow in the footsteps of Bill Gates, Rachel Weisz and the Dalai Lama by visiting the iconic 12th Century Round Church or explore an array of lovely indie shops. Named after the Great Bridge on the River Cam (which now forms part of Magdalene Street) Bridge Street is a bustling haven, set to welcome Pizza Express in September. Let’s take a stroll. . .
Byron
On a mission to bring ‘proper burgers’ to the UK, Tom Byng launched Byron in 2007 on his return from New York. Its culinary offering includes burgers (naturally!), fries and sides, wings ‘n’ things and thick shakes.
The delicious Newton burger is a Cambridge exclusive paying homage to the city’s rich academic and culinary heritage, featuring The Cambridge Cider Company chutney and d’Arry’s Baron Bigod cheese.
