Shopping: Luna House brings good vintage to Bury

Just opened in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, Luna House sees three local friends and fellow vintage lovers sell the best of pre-loved

Home to three floors of antique and interesting furniture, homeware, pictures, lighting, jewellery and original vintage clothing, Luna House is bringing the best of pre-loved to the heart of Bury St Edmunds. Opening last month on Butter Market, the venture is a collaboration between four local friends and fellow retailers “all passionate about reducing carbon footprints by recycling, restoring and reclaiming”.

“You’ll discover an eclectic mix over our three floors; almost 100% of everything in the shop has had a previous and hopefully interesting life,” explains Amanda Sherring, who’s launched Luna with Anne Hawes, Gill Beeson and Helen Copeland, all of whom have experience in buying and selling antiques.

Luna House already has a Facebook following for its carefully curated collections of interior decor, from furniture, china and glassware to artwork and ornaments, and the shop is also stocking vintage vinyl, books, clothing (including items handmade by Helen) and accessories (including custom jewellery). The vast majority of pieces are 20th century, with even 80s and 90s designs now sought-after.

The public desire to live a lower-impact life has soared during the pandemic, making pre-loved more popular than ever. Says Anne: “It feels the right time to open if we are to meet that desire. People are becoming more interested in sustainable living, and the shop is a good example of that. The customers will be able to say they have saved a product from landfill.”
