Raising the Stakes
Three days of the finest fashions, top-class horse racing, great live entertainment and – weather permitting – fabulous summer sunshine, Newmarket’s Moët & Chandon July Festival is always a calendar highlight. Now branded simply as The July, Velvet is proud to be media partner for the event’s hotly-contested best dressed competition, The Style Awards. The Awards begin with the Best Dressed Lady competition: the highlight of Ladies’ Day, Thursday, July 11, it sees thousands of racegoers don hats and heels in the hope of winning a top spot and thousands of pounds in prizes.
And this year, you don’t have to be podium-placed to take home a treat. Velvet has put together a hamperful of goodies – worth £1,700, it contains everything from shoes and bags to pamper products and dining experiences – which will be raffled to a best-dressed entrant: take part and your name will automatically be put in the hat.
Out on the course, the Princess of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes is sure to draw the crowds, and BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw will be headlining the three days of the Après Racing after-parties, so be sure to wear your dancing shoes!
On day two, Friday, July 12, it’s the return of the festival’s popular Feel Good Friday: held in partnership with Heart FM, racegoers can expect all sorts of ‘feel good’ surprises throughout the day. On the track, it’ll be time to back your favourite fillies and mares in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (sponsored by bet365) and the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes. Back in the Style Awards marquee, Best Dressed Gentleman will be the talk of the afternoon: with more fabulous, yet-to be-unveiled prizes on offer, this is the day for the dapper male dressers amongst you to take a turn in the spotlight. Once again, the day will come to a close with drinks and dancing at the Après Racing party, hosted by one of the popular Heart FM DJ’s.
The focus of the final day of The July, Saturday, July 13, is the Group 1 Darley July Cup: one of the world’s most valuable and prestigious races, the winner is often hailed the best sprinter in Europe. On the fashion front, the Best Dressed Couple will be taking their chance to shine, and there will be family fun, too: with under-18s welcome in all enclosures for free across all three days, the Garden Enclosure will be hosting a special Rowley’s Kids’ Club zone, with inflatable games and face-painting on July Cup Day. Once again, Après Racing will bring the day and the Festival to a climax with the hugely talented Beatbox Trio Duke.
With all the Style Awards categories free to enter, a packed race card and a party atmosphere, The July is not to be missed. . .
