Events: Need a laugh? Head for Cambridge Junction
Cambridge Junction's spring season promises life-affirming laughter and live music. Velvet enjoys a preview. . .
Laughter is good for the soul, known to relieve tension, relax nerves, boost your mood and bring a sense of balance to life. So, why not treat yourself to a snicker sesh at Cambridge Junction which plays host to a succession of top-class comedians this season?
Prepare to have your feathers ruffled by cult comedy favourite Paul Foot as he fuses dark humour with out-and-out silliness in Swan Power (February 24). Described as ‘sublime, original, brilliant’, the multi-award-winning funny fellow swan-dives into topics including tackling online trolls, Eamonn Holmes and the massively underwhelming sex drive of pandas.
Edging into March, catch Grace Campbell’s irreverent, satirical take on sex and gender politics in A Show About Me(n) (March 7). Dubbed ‘a superstar in the making’, Grace promises to be funny, fiery (and explicit) as she shares stories about football, break ups, moving to America to escape men, and being constantly defined by her own father, Alastair Campbell.
But, if music is more your thing, catch high-energy folk collective The Gigspanner Big Band for an exhilarating date at Junction2 (February 21). Expect a delicious blend of riotous inventiveness and technically gifted playing from a line-up which includes former Steeleye Span fiddle player Peter Knight and Bellowhead co-founder John Spiers.
