Award Win: Velvet crowned Regional Magazine of the Year

Judges at the national Newspaper Awards hail the magazine a “stand-out title”

With its 200th edition fresh off the press, Velvet is marking more than one milestone this month: it’s also been crowned Regional Magazine of the Year 2024!

Deemed a “stand-out title” by judges at the national Newspaper Awards - the industry’s ‘Oscars’ - Velvet was praised for both its “super production values” and flying the flag for our area on every page, carrying “hardly any generic content”.

Says editor Alice Ryan: “Recognition from the Newspaper Awards - which are both national and nationwide - is amazing: we couldn’t be more pleased or proud! This award is a tribute to our team, our contributors, our clients, our readers - everyone who supports and believes in the magazine.”

Other winners at the Newspaper Awards included The Guardian’s Saturday, which took National Magazine of the Year (Weekly), and The Times’ LUXX, National Magazine of the Year (Non-weekly).
