Art: Take a virtual tour of Britain at Byard
Garry Raymond-Pereira’s famously transporting land and seascapes are now showing at the Cambridge gallery
Proof of art’s ability to take us to another time and place, Garry Raymond-Pereira’s paintings are genuinely transporting: look at his landscapes and you can almost feel the whip of the Highland winds, the spray of the North Norfolk seas.
Though he’s known for his old-school methods - he sketches en plein air, no matter the weather, and grinds his oil pigments by hand - Garry’s perspective is thoroughly modern, often showing the landscapes framed by house or even car windows.
Winner of numerous awards, including The Laing and Public Eye Prizes, Garry is staging a solo show at central Cambridge gallery Byard Art from today (October 8) to November 1, giving us the chance to travel the country without leaving the city.
Byard Art is at King’s Parade, Cambridge. Visit byardart.co.uk for more.
