Art: Suffolk art star Ania Hobson is going solo

If coronavirus has cramped your cultural calendar, here’s a diary date. Ania Hobson - the local painter who found national fame in 2018, when she beat 2,667 entrants from 88 countries to win the BP Portrait Awards Young Artist Prize - is staging her first major solo show at London’s Catto Gallery this month.

Says the Suffolk artist, known for depicting her female subjects in means-business workwear and boots: “I like celebrating modern-day women but avoid painting them in a stereotypically feminine way. I am trying to make my mark in a man’s world and want to help portray women as strong, world-changing creatures.”

Her work is both luscious and arresting - go see.

The show runs until September 23. See cattogallery.co.uk
