Art: Newmarket photographer wins ultimate accolade

Jayne Odell's behind-the-scenes images of Newmarket have won her a Royal Photographic Society Fellowship - and we can see why

Newmarket photographer Jayne Odell now has letters after her name - FRPS, denoting her Fellowship of The Royal Photographic Society. The award was made on the strength of a 21-image project which, compiled over four years, captures “the world ‘behind the scenes’ of horse racing”, explains Jayne. Working closely with Charlie Fellowes Racing, she titled the series ‘At the End of Our Garden’.

The society’s highest level of distinction, the fellowship recognises not only technical excellence, but also “originality and a deeper understanding of the subject with strong narrative”. Adds Jayne: “I am now one of only 750 Fellows in the world - an incredible feeling!”
