Plantober: Plant a tree to help combat climate change
Want to help combat climate change? Take part in Plantober, this month’s tree-planting campaign
Want to do your bit for the environment? One of the easiest - and most effective - things to do is plant a tree. Encouraging people of all ages to plant and grow native tree seeds, both for future generations to enjoy and to help meet the UK’s net-zero goal, the #Plantober campaign is back for a second year.
The brainchild of Cambridgeshire’s own re-greening organisation, Creating Nature’s Corridors, the campaign runs throughout October. As well as raising awareness, it provides “practical guidance on how to forage for native tree seeds such as hazelnut, conker, sweet chestnut and oak, and how to successfully plant these using recycled materials to generate essential saplings,” explain the team.
“Once the tree saplings are established in a year’s time, Plantober and its partners can offer advice on how and where these can be planted, either in private gardens or at nearby community planting sites, to create much-needed new zones of woodland.”
