Homes: Great British furniture brand comes to Ben’s Yard
Ben’s Yard in Ely has welcomed another retailer: great British furniture brand Arlo & Jacob
Known for combining contemporary design with classic craftsmanship, British furniture brand Arlo & Jacob has opened a Cambridgeshire showroom - at Ely’s new rural retail village, Ben’s Yard.
With designs ranging from traditional English to streamlined Scandi, every item, sofas to chairs to footstools, is both designed and made in the UK. Frames are built from sustainably sourced beech and birch hardwood, ‘glued, screwed and dowelled’ in the time-honoured way; springs, made from British steel, are shaped and fitted by hand; upholstery is full, so bases too are carefully covered, with fabrics painstakingly pattern-matched.
A family-run brand, named after the founders’ two young sons, “attention to detail is paramount,” say the team, “and every task is undertaken by skilled experts, on a one-person, one-job basis. It’s this combination of craftsmanship and quality materials that result in timeless pieces of furniture that will last you a lifetime.”
Arlo & Jacob is the latest retailer to arrive at Ben’s Yard, which opened earlier this year and is already home to interiors and accessories brand Love Lane by Abi, florist Thatch & Roses, gift and children’s store Freda & Bert, women’s fashion boutique Something About Rose, hair and beauty salon The Hair Company, electric bike shop Spoke & Motor and craft butchery Malloy’s, along with an onsite cafe, restaurant, playpark and wildlife walks.
