Fundraising Fun: Join the Sunset Walk and help Bury’s St Nicholas Hospice
As the sun sets on a balmy summer’s day, step out into the night for a pleasant stroll with family or friends to support an amazing cause.
The St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Sunset Walk, which sets off from Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, June 21, is an evening of remembrance, celebration and community spirit.
Now in its second year, with main sponsor Greene King, the fundraiser is set to be even bigger, featuring 10km and 15km routes.
St Nicholas Hospice Care in Bury provides specialist palliative care and emotional and practical support, so that no-one in West Suffolk and Thetford has to face dying, death and grief alone. Besides medical support, the hospice offers dignity, warmth, and joy to those facing life-limiting illnesses, helping families create meaningful memories.
Last year, more than 1,000 walkers took part in the Sunset Walk, raising an incredible £123,186.
“Fundraisers like this are vital in keeping our services running. Hospice care is about more than treatment—it’s about helping families make the most of their time together,” says Charlie De-Moore, hospice events manager. “Recently, we held a wedding blessing allowing a father to be by his daughter’s side on her special day. We decorated with fairy lights and a red carpet, provided refreshments and a wedding cake, and arranged for a volunteer photographer to capture the moment.”
The Sunset Walk offers a festival atmosphere with live music, food, and a warm-up before the 6pm start. With hospice care costing £22,000 a day, every walker is encouraged to raise £100. Sign up at stnh.org.uk/sunset-walk
