Fit Bits: Personal trainer Dan Mitton helps clients to prioritise fitness

Owner of MTTN Fitness, Dan Mitton is a personal trainer who thrives on helping clients to show up, push boundaries and build confidence

What I do

I’m a personal trainer with seven years’ experience, currently at One Leisure Outdoor in St Ives and Outtrain at Cambridge Rugby Club. My focus has always been performance—not just looking good, but achieving measurable goals. That could be competing in sport, hitting your first pull-up, or lifting your own bodyweight. Seeing real progress keeps people (and me) consistent, and consistency is where the results happen.

Why I love my job

This one’s easy. When I see a client achieve something they didn’t think they could, I feel just as proud as if I’d done it myself. That’s what makes the early starts and late finishes totally worth it.

My go-to quick workout

I like to do this 15-minute EMOM-style challenge, which you could try to?

Start at one end of a 10-meter space. Run to the other end (10m total) and then do 1 burpee. Minute 2: Run 20m (there and back) and do 2 burpees.

Minute 3: Run 30 m and do 3 burpees. Keep going like this, adding 10m to your run and 1 burpee each minute, until you can’t complete both in one minute.

It’s a simple, fast, and good way to track progress by repeating every so often—short but super effective. Quick doesn’t mean easy!

My favourite feel-good long workout

My ideal session is 10 minutes moving fast (such as box jumps), 20–30 minutes lifting heavy (such as heavy squats), 10–15 minutes conditioning to finish strong.

The energy-boosting snack I swear by

I have a strange addiction to bagels. Savoury or sweet, they give you the carbs to fuel a workout without feeling too heavy on the stomach.

My indulgent treat food

I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I’m not ashamed to admit I still grab sweets now and then!

How I kickback and relax

I’m happiest outdoors—hiking, punting, or just soaking up the fresh air. When I’m not moving, I’m usually glued to a game; there’s not many sports I don’t follow!

My top tips for anyone who needs motivating to start exercising

The hardest lift you’re going to do is getting up and walking to the doors of the gym. As hard as it can be with life stuff, you have to prioritise your health like you would other important factors of your life.
