Our fitness story

We’re Zoë and Em - personal trainers with over nine years of joint experience in the fitness industry. We founded EmpowerFitUK - Cambridge’s only female PT duo who want to make fitness a safe and inclusive space for everyone to feel their best. We work with women, trans and non-binary clients and take a holistic and realistic approach. We utilise a variety of training systems such as strength, endurance, HIIT and mobility, understanding that each fitness plan is unique to the individual and their experience level.

What we do

We offer a variety of services to suit individual needs such as 1-2-1 personal training, small group training and online coaching. We’ve also built a community of likeminded people - something that was missing in the 1-2-1 personal training space. We host monthly socials with our team and have a lot of fun doing so! We’ve had spin and brunch socials, Galentines dinners and Christmas parties, to name a few.

Why we love our jobs

The clients! Our job would be nothing without them. We love watching them grow physically and mentally both in and outside the gym. Also, the joy on their faces when they achieve something they didn’t think they could? Seeing that is really unmatched!

Our go-to quick workout

If we’re stuck for time, we love an AMRAP! This means ‘as many rounds as possible’. Jot a few exercises down and repeat the circuit as many times as you can in your given amount of time. It’s simple, efficient and VERY effective!

Our favourite feel-good long workout

If we’re feeling energetic or in need of a boost, we love to smash out a heavy leg session just to show what we’re capable of. If we’re low on energy we throw on a podcast and go for a walk.

The energy-boosting snack we swear by

If we’ve got time we love a good oat bowl, especially with some fruit and dark chocolate. If we’re a bit more pushed for time or need a pre-workout snack, we’re both big fans of the peanut butter bagel!

Our indulgent treat food

Biscoff! We love it. Although if you had to pin us down for an indulgent meal, we’re pizza girls through and through.

How we kickback and relax

Em: I put a comfort TV show on (think: Gilmore Girls, Friends, New Girl, etc), light a candle and snuggle up with my dog.

Zoë: For me it’s cooking! I am a big foodie so coming home and finding my zen in the kitchen really winds me down after a busy week.

Our top tips for anyone who needs motivating to start exercising

Remember you don’t have to be perfect! A lot of people wait until the perfect time to start exercising, but truth be told, it doesn’t exist.

Once you’re committed, start small. Can you add some extra steps in your week? Can you commit to one gym session a week? Once you’ve mastered this, then begin to layer more healthy habits on top. We always think it’s best if motivation comes from a place of positivity, thinking about the additions you can make to your life rather than subtractions. You want to build a routine that’s realistic and enjoyable, not another task you ‘have’ to do. If that fails, get a gym buddy like we did! Making exercise social makes it much more enjoyable, and keeps you accountable!
