Win: Tea for two at Elsie May's - worth £30
To celebrate the second birthday of Elsie May's Electric Lounge in St Neots, we're giving away an all-bells-and-whistles tea for two worth £30
If Naomi Rose didn’t have a dog, she might not have her own tea room either. It was while walking Bella through St Neots Market Square that her interest was piqued by renovations going on inside number 58 - home to the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Electricity Company Showroom when it opened in 1929.
Peeking inside, Naomi and husband Andy were invited to take a tour. “We found out about all the incredible history: it was actually where electricity first came into St Neots and the building was used to showcase what it could do,” she explains. “With its Art Deco features and big open windows, we thought it would make an amazing café. . .”
The timing was serendipitous. A work contract having just come to an end, Naomi was looking for a new project - and so Elsie May’s Electric Lounge was born. “It’s named Elsie May’s after my grandmother, who taught me how to bake and who always dreamt of having her own tea room,” she explains, “and Electric Lounge after the history of the building.”
With everything - cakes, bakes, breads, pastries - made by hand in the onsite kitchen using local, seasonal ingredients sourced from fellow indies wherever possible, Elsie May’s has won legions of fans since opening in December 2018, loved, among other things, for its signature scones, always-changing specials, gluten-free options, “and being very dog friendly,” adds Naomi.
Festive afternoon teas are back this month, along with to-order Christmas cakes and bakes. See elsiemays.co.uk and call (01480) 472683.
