Win: A dessert box of delights from The Baking Jin

To celebrate Bake Off season, we've teamed up with Jin to give away two boxes of Malaysian-inspired sweet treats, each worth £15

With his feather-light chiffon sponges and distinctive sweet-meets-savoury flavours, Jin Yee Chung, aka The Baking Jin, is known for bringing a taste of his Malaysian childhood to the cake lovers of Cambridge.

“I notice most local people aren’t used to Oriental inspired bakes: there is no ecosystem around here, unlike in Asia, where everyone knows them,” says Jin, who featured in last month’s baking special in Velvet.

“I am still working hard at convincing people here to try these light sponge creations - so if you’ve not yet tried chiffon cake nor pandan, give The Baking Jin a shot!”

To mark his decision to take The Baking Jin fulltime - an engineer by training, Jin’s ran his cake company part time till this autumn - we’ve got two of his monthly dessert boxes to give away, each worth £15. Containing at least five portions of assorted cake, patisserie and kuih, all familiar Malaysian bakes, it was devised to cure students’ homesickness during lockdown but, thanks to demand, it’s now a regular fixture.

For your chance to win, simply email your name, address and daytime number to alice.ryan@velvetmag.co.uk, titling your message ‘The Baking Jin Competition’. Entries should arrive no later than October 20 and the usual Ts and Cs apply; if you’re happy to be contacted by Iliffe Media and its partners, add ‘Please Contact’.
