Preview: Why The Tivoli will be *the* place to go

The iconic Cambridge pub is about to reopen as a unique four-storey food, drink and entertainment experience. Here's why we're here for it

Fancy a beer? A burger? A round of golf? The Tivoli is the place to go. . .

An iconic Cambridge building, dating from 1925, the Art Deco pub stood empty for more than a decade following an eviscerating fire back in 2015. But then City Pub Company came to the rescue, undertaking a two-year floor-to-rafters refurbishment and imagining a whole new future for the venue, poised to reopen as a unique four-storey food, drink and entertainment experience on May 25 (bookings taken from May 20).

The ground-floor drinking and dining hall promises beer from Meantime Brewery, poured fresh from one of three 500-litre tanks; Riverside beef burgers from local street food legend Steak & Honour; and straight-from-the-oven square tear-and-share pizzas from Levels Pizza.

Down in the basement you’ll find Club Shuffle, with its two full-length wooden shuffleboards, bar and intimate riverside terrace, while the first floor is the place to go for a round of mini golf: fitted with neon lighting and industrial fixtures, Electric Greens encompasses a pair of nine-hole courses (best booked).

Finally, on the top storey, you can kick back in a deckchair on the roof terrace which, said to offer “incredible views”, is being billed as “one of *the* places to hang out during those hazy Cambridge summer days”. There’s also an indoor events space and outdoor terrace, both available for private hire, plus a (complimentary) membership scheme which provides numerous perks.
