Openings: An African restaurant, an ice cream parlour and a pair of pizza joints
Bottomless pizza, grilled goat and vegan frozerts: what’s new to the menu in Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge
Slices, Bury St Edmunds
Good news for fans of The Graze Kitchen, the Newmarket café and bistro loved for its Mediterranean-style mix of coffee, cakes, cocktails and small plates: founder Silas Teixeira has launched a sister restaurant in Bury St Edmunds - this time offering bottomless pizza.
Moving into the Dough & Co site on Abbeygate Street, Slices is a partnership between Silas and fellow food entrepreneur Paddy McLeavey. Making top-quality pizza fast and affordable - aimed at families, children under 6 eat free with a paying adult - the slices are made from home-recipe dough and marinara, cooked in the onsite wood-fired oven and feature both classic and more adventurous toppings.
Says Silas: “Paddy and I met in this very building when it was Patisserie Valerie back in 2012. We both went on to start our own businesses; it was almost written that we would come back here as business partners.”
With wait staff delivering your first slice as soon as you sit down, they will go from table to table offering different types of pizza throughout your visit. On weekends and holidays, an outside pizza cart will also sell giant New York slices to takeaway.
Operating seven days a week, noon until late, Slices is open now.
Spoonstruck, Cambridge
A new ice cream shop is coming to Cambridge: say hello to Spoonstruck, the local company “passionate about crafting delicious, natural ice creams and plant-based ‘frozerts’”.
With flavours ranging from classic Mad Vanilla and OMG Chocolate to quirky Winter Eggnog and Black Pepper, expect cones, cups, sundaes and ‘bellybusters’ - the brand’s topping-laden signature dish - along with accompanying cakes, bakes and drinks.

AfricFood, Cambridge
If you’ve eaten Sunkanmi Ariyabi’s West African food, which she’s been serving from a Cambridge Market stall since 2016, you’ll know that her just-opened restaurant AfricFood is a must-visit.
Located on the city’s Hills Road, the menu is inspired by Sunkanmi’s Nigerian culinary heritage and features numerous customer favourites from the market - think grilled goat with jollof rice, fried plantain with spicy sauce, yam porridge with aromatic spices. . .
Tyrell Art Gallery, based on Nuttings Road in Cambridge, will be showing and selling a rotating selection of artwork within the restaurant too.
See africfood.co.uk for the full menu, opening hours and updates.
Lucy’s Pizzeria, Fornham All Saints
Lucy’s, the much-loved former pizzeria in Fornham All Saints, has reopened under new ownership. Taking the helm is the team which runs Rustico, the Italian restaurant in neighbouring Bury St Edmunds.
“Lucy's has the real taste of Italian pizza and pasta and this is something we will continue,” says the team, announcing the news on social media. “Lucy's Pizzeria will still deliver the same experience in quality food, traditional recipes and a great atmosphere - so we look forward to seeing you soon!”
