Opening: Cambridge’s Amelie brings its much-loved ‘modern food’ to Ely
New venues, new menus: Cambridge’s much-loved Amelie has expanded to two sites at Ben’s Yard, Ely
Regis and Alex Crepy, the father-and-son team behind Amelie in Cambridge, are expanding their restaurant and café business to Ben’s Yard. Taking over both the main restaurant and the café and bake shop at the rural retail village in Stuntney, set just outside Ely, Alex says: “We’re looking forward to extending a warm welcome to everyone and sharing our modern food, as well as introducing our signature flam-kuche.”
A crispy yeast-free flatbread, spread with crème fraiche and a tasty combination of either savoury or sweet toppings, Amelie has made its name with flam-kuche at both its Cambridge sites, The Grafton and Cambridge Cookery.
At Ben’s Yard, Regis, who formerly ran both Lavenham’s The Great House and Maison Bleue in Bury St Edmunds, will collaborate with head chef Rory Landells on “an attractive, good-value menu of freshly prepared Mediterranean-inspired dishes using seasonal and locally sourced produce” - think hispi cabbage with tonkatsu sauce, beef cheek braised in Guinness and sagaloo cod with mint yoghurt.
The Ben’s Yard cafe will feature “daily homemade French dishes of salads, savoury and sweet tarts, and Regis’ signature desserts, such as the best-selling strawberry tart”.
Amelie Restaurant at Ben’s Yard, which has 150 covers, is open 9am to 4pm daily; Amelie Café & Bakeshop has 50 covers, plus outside seating, and is open 9am to 5pm. To reserve a restaurant table call 01353 524015 or email bensyard@amelierestaurants.co.uk. See amelierestaurants.co.uk for more.
