Launch: Cambridge turns into Tea Town for Bird & Blend collab
This could be the cutest (and most British) collab ever: Bird & Blend has cut the ribbon on a Mr Men and Little Miss tea collection
“Mr Men and tea are two very British things; they complement each other perfectly, I think! It’s a very happy marriage.” So says Mr Men author Adam Hargreaves, who’s teamed up with tea brand Bird & Blend - a B Corp as famous for its ethical practice as its innovative flavours - to launch a pair of themed teas.
With Cambridge’s Green Street Bird & Blend store turned into Tea Town last night (February 27) to celebrate the collaboration, Adam was joined by Little Miss Sunshine to welcome guests, sign books and draw personalised pictures.
The two special teas - Mr Happy (a black tea described as “a smooth and rich chocolate orange taste sensation with a sprinkle of sunflower petals”) and Little Miss Sunshine (a fruit infusion which “blends notes of peach and orange with sunflower petals”) were served both hot and cold, with a Cambridge Gin cocktail option too.
Adam picked up the Mr Men baton from his father, creator Roger, in the late 1980s and has been writing and illustrating the iconic stories ever since. “It’s amazing how many generations have now grown up with Mr Men; that’s a testament to what my dad created,” he says.
“I had no idea I would be involved. Sadly my dad died very young and the company he created was left rudderless. I stepped in to help my mum out, on the business side to begin with, but I have inherited my dad’s drawing skills, so was able to get into the creative side,” explains Adam.
Available to buy in store and online now, the Mr. Happy Tea and Little Miss Sunshine Tea Cubes are priced at £10 and contain 12 single-serve tea blends.
“Everyone says I’m Mr Forgetful, which is true,” adds Adam, “but my favourite is Mr Silly, because he really epitomises my dad’s sense of humour and makes me think of him.”
