Little Italy

Fans of Signorelli’s, the delicious Italian deli and cafe on Cambridge’s Burleigh Street, are in for a treat: Alex Signorelli, brains behind the operation, has just unveiled a second venue - La Piazza in The Grafton’s Food Social.

Describing the concept as “something new and refreshing”, Alex says it will still stay true to his culinary roots, with traditional Italian antipasti, pastas and salads all on the menu, alongside gelato and granita. There’s a bar, too, offering cocktails, craft beer and wine.

Good Loaf

Gail Mejia started baking for London’s top restaurants in the early 1990s before, wanting to make great bread available to everyone, opening her first neighbourhood bakery on Hampstead High Street in 2005. Fast-forward to today and GAIL’s Bakery has 49 branches across London - and, on November 7, one will open in Cambridge at The Grafton’s Food Social.

Offering 20 different artisanal loaves, all handmade with minimal processing, GAIL’s is also known for its cakes, pastries and house-blend coffee. With a seasonally-changing menu spanning breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, the enterprise has a keen social conscience, too, donating any unsold produce to local charities. Holy Cow

Already a site of pilgrimage for fans - thanks to Steak & Honour, Doppleganger, Honest, Chosen Bun, Butch Annie’s. . . - Cambridge is adding another string to its burger bow: The Burger Priest, also about to open on The Grafton’s Food Social floor.

Promising juicy 100% Aberdeen Angus burgers, always made fresh, never frozen, in squishy brioche buns, the chain has a religious theme as its name suggests; apparently diners sit on pews and menus are displayed on hymn boards, with signature dishes including the Altar (topped with crisped sweetcure bacon and melted smoked cheese) and Hellfire (chorizo, jalapenos, Mexican cheese).

Coming Soon. . .

The Grafton’s Food Social is set to welcome two more eateries before the end of the year: Skewer, a Turkish restaurant from the team behind BBQ Grill N Bar restaurant near Cambridge station, and The Duck Truck, the UK’s first duck-only restaurant.
