Food: Home cooking
With lessons taking place in the large and light-filled kitchen of a lovely Suffolk farmhouse - home to food writer and recipe developer Linda Duffin - new cookery school Mrs Portly’s promises to be one of a kind. Launching this New Year, workshops will cover everything from pasta making and sourdough baking to producing preserves and cooking game.
“I want this cookery school to be something out of the ordinary,” says Linda, a member of the Guild of Food Writers. “The most outstanding thing about Suffolk to me as a cook is the range and quality of the produce available and the passion that goes into rearing, growing or making it.”
Showcasing local and home-grown ingredients - the house sits in several acres of grounds, spanning herb and vegetable gardens and an orchard - the school will not only offer sessions with Linda, but also the chance to learn from other experts, including Steve Tricker of Truly Traceable and Simon Wooster from the award-winning Wooster’s Bakery.
Based in Brockford, Mrs Portly’s Kitchen Classes begin this month and run throughout the year. For more information and to book visit mrsportlyskitchen.co.uk
