Food News: Dine out for a fiver, book a banquet and join a party. . .
From dining out for a fiver to a four-day party weekend, these are the foodie offers and events not to miss across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk this spring
Dine Out for £5: Eat out in Newmarket this week and you can enjoy cuisine from all corners of the globe, with restaurants specialising in everything from Indian and Italian food to Mexican, Turkish, Greek and Brazilian. Thanks to Love Newmarket’s annual Restaurant Week, you can enjoy special menus and offers at eateries across town: with prices starting at just £5, it runs until March 16. To find out more, go to lovenewmarket.co.uk or follow @love.newmarket on Instagram.
Book a Nose-to-Tail Banquet: Cambridge chef Lee Clarke is known for his sustainable approach in the kitchen: as well as cooking in sync with the seasons and sourcing ingredients as locally as possible, he minimises waste by making the most of every morsel. A case in point? His newly launched Nose to Tail banqueting nights, which see him create a multi-course feast using every possible part of a single animal. Taking place at Parker’s Tavern, the restaurant Lee helms at the city’s historic University Arms hotel, Nose to Tail runs monthly with a different meat on the menu each time: on March 5, it’s beef; on April 2, venison; and on May 7, lamb. Tickets, priced £39.50, are booking now. Visit parkerstavern.com/series-nose-to-tail for full details and to book.
Join the Party: Northstowe Tap & Social - the place to go for everything from fresh bread, bakes and coffee to burgers and craft beers - is celebrating its first birthday with a four-day party. Running throughout the Easter weekend, things kick off on Friday with a night of DJs and dancing, continue on Saturday with a day of food and drink tastings, culminate with a live set from BIG TEN at the official birthday bash on Sunday, and come to a close with bring-your-own vinyl sessions, film screenings and family-friendly activities on Monday. A pair of limited edition beers has been brewed for the occasion too, in collaboration with local brewing legends Three Blind Mice and Pastore, and stellar street food will be served all weekend long, with Northstowe resident Steak & Honour joined by Pasta Bar, Papas Locas and Manna Seoul. Say the team: “Come for the birthday beers, stay for the fun! Whether you’re a beer lover, music fan, or just looking for a great way to spend the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, there’s something for everyone. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!” Northstowe Tap & Social is at The Mount, Station Road, Northstowe, Cambridge. Head to northstowetapandsocial.com to find out more.
Bake Your Own: Flammekueche has been a signature dish for Amelie since its first eatery opened in Cambridge back in 2018 - and now, in delicious news, you can enjoy the crispy yeast-free flatbreads at home! An Alsatian speciality, typically spread with crème fraiche before being finished with savoury and/or sweet toppings, you can order freezer-friendly packs of 15 bake-at-home flammekueche bases for collection or postal delivery, as of this month. Founded by father and son Regis and Alex Crepy, Amelie launched with a fast food site in Cambridge’s Grafton shopping centre and now spans both a restaurant and cafe at rural retail destination Ben’s Yard, Stuntney. With the Grafton venue closing earlier this year, to allow the team to focus on the two new premises, the bases can be either picked up from Ben’s Yard or delivered by post.
