Food & Drink: Four of the best local cafes to visit in Coffee Week

To mark International Coffee Day and National Coffee Week, we recommend four of the finest cafes from across the area

The Graze Kitchen, Newmarket

The Graze Kitchen
The Graze Kitchen

An independent business located in the heart of Newmarket, The Graze Kitchen operates as both a restaurant and coffee shop and also hosts evening events. “Since 2022, we have worked with a small independent roaster in London to source the perfect beans to create the perfect cup of coffee,” say the team. “We use a Java coffee bean which has been specially blended with Sumatran and Vietnamese Robusta to produce a beautifully balanced coffee. Our baristas love what they do and every cup of coffee is always made with consistency and lots of love.”

Fitzbillies, Cambridge

Fitzbillies

There are good coffee shops and there are good bakeries, but where can you be sure to get the best of both? You can rely on Fitzbillies for great coffee and amazing homemade pastries. “Our coffee is roasted for us by specialist artisan roastery Allpress,” say the team, “and we make all our own pastries in-house at our own bakery. Our croissant, pain au chocolat, almond croissant and our amazing cinnamon croissant buns are all made by hand, daily, using French butter. And where else can you get a Fitzbillies Chelsea bun to go with your coffee?”
Locations: 51-52 Trumpington Street, 35 Bridge Street and, opening soon, 15 King’s Parade, Cambridge

No visit to Burwash Manor, the rural shopping and day-out destination in Barton, is complete without a Flock stop. Made fresh every morning from in-season ingredients, the smiley staff serve everything from cakes and scones to brunches and lunches - and everything is equally delicious. Special mentions go to the carrot cake, soups, salads, sourdough pizzas (the oven fires up at weekends) and, of course, the coffee.
