Food: Art of Coffee in Cambridge's Mill Road
There’s an art to running a top-notch coffee shop. Just ask the De Simone brothers, Anthony and Kevin, who’ve just opened Modigliani on Cambridge’s Mill Road: from the brand logo (Botticelli’s Birth of Venus) to the menu specials (take the Da Vinci focaccia), there’s an Italian art theme throughout.
The brothers are, as you may have guessed, Italian born and bred.
The idea for their business came two years ago when, Anthony a manager and Kevin a chef, they discovered a shared ambition to bring a taste of their native country to their adopted home city of Cambridge.
An impressive 95% of ingredients are sourced from Italy, as Anthony explains: “We use Italian coffee and we serve Italian specialities like saltimbocca, focaccia, panini all’olio, Italian pastries with fresh cream and patisserie such as tiramisu and bignè.”
As well as the day-to-day service, Modigliani offers event catering and runs pop-up evening events once or twice monthly, showcasing special set menus.
“We started with nothing but a dream and our passion and after a while and a lot of sacrifice we opened our artisan coffee shop,” adds Anthony. “We are proud to be independent and detail-oriented. We choose to use just fresh ingredients and artisan products; our products are proudly handmade.”
