From fresh and fruity iced tea to brilliant bubbles and tropical takes on G&T, Velvet rounds up some top summer thirst-quenchers

Bullards English Sparkling Rose (58045333)
Bullards English Sparkling Rose (58045333)

Bullards English Sparkling Rosé, £40 per bottle, bullardsspirits.co.uk

Already famous for its gins - among other accolades, it won World’s Best London Dry in 2017 - Norwich drinks brand Bullards has just launched its debut wine, a blush sparkling rosé which is every bit as pleasing on the palate as it is pretty in the glass. Made using the traditional Champagne method, which sees the crucial second fermentation take place in-bottle, it’s a blend of Seyval Blanc, Pinot Noir and Auxerrois grapes, all grown at Bullards’ own Tipsy Anchor vineyard near Wymondham. Balancing sweet, summery strawberry and raspberry notes with just enough acidity, it’s both elegant and eminently quaffable, making it a lovely aperitif or accompaniment to everything from alfresco suppers to afternoon tea.

Gordon's Passionfruit Gin (58045481)
Gordon's Passionfruit Gin (58045481)

Gordon’s Tropical Passionfruit Distilled Gin, £16.50 for 70cl, Morrisons stores

A tropical twist on the iconic Gordon’s recipe - famously created in 1769 by one Alexander Gordon, a London distiller of Scottish descent - what’s really impressive about this gin is the way it balances the passionfruit, such a strong and distinctive flavour it can easily overpower, with the core botanicals, particularly the peppery juniper. Serve with a simple Indian tonic, plentiful ice and a passion fruit wedge for a seriously summery take on your Friday night G&T.

KAYTEA Mango Yuzu White Tea, Jasmine Grapefruit Green Tea and Lemon Zest Black Tea (58045340)
KAYTEA Mango Yuzu White Tea, Jasmine Grapefruit Green Tea and Lemon Zest Black Tea (58045340)

KAYTEA Mango Yuzu White Tea, Jasmine Grapefruit Green Tea and Lemon Zest Black Tea, £19.99 for a case of 12 cans, kaytea.co.uk

Drawing on the tea cultures of Asia and Canada, where brand founder Kevin Tang lived and worked before settling in the UK, KAYTEA has just added a trio of new flavours to its organic cold brew range. There’s a white tea infused with sharp yuzu and sweet mango; a jasmine green tea blended with zesty grapefruit; and a black tea steeped with Amalfi Coast lemon. Served iced, ideally in a tall glass poured over plentiful cubes, all are refreshing and packed with flavour. And, free from artificial ingredients and containing less than 66 calories per can, they’re a guilt-free pleasure, too.

Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose (58045346)
Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rose (58045346)

Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rosé, £35 per bottle, Waitrose stores

A trailblazer in English sparkling wine, Sussex vineyard Ridgeview has won numerous accolades (it made 36 in the World’s Top 50 Vineyard list 2019) and seen its bubbly served at numerous Royal occasions (including then-President Obama’s official visit to Buckingham Palace). The Fitzrovia is a strong contender for ultimate summer rosé: a delightful, delicate pink, it delivers an abundance of both bubbles and fresh, fruity flavours. While it’s delicious as an aperitif or paired with savoury foods, notably fish dishes, it’s downright divine served with strawberries.

Fever Tree Limited Edition Passionfruit and Lime Tonic (58045488)
Fever Tree Limited Edition Passionfruit and Lime Tonic (58045488)

Fever-Tree Passionfruit & Lime Tonic Water, £1.90 for 100ml, Asda stores

Sweet yet zesty and singularly refreshing, this limited edition tonic is equally delicious drunk alone or as a mixer. Blending tonic’s characteristic bubbly spring water and quinine with Ecuadorian yellow passion fruit, which gives the drink its sunset-orange blush, and just a touch of Tahitian lime, it’s the perfect summer’s-evening partner for either gin or vodka.

Apollo Passionfrui Liqueur (58045659)
Apollo Passionfrui Liqueur (58045659)

Apollo passionfruit liqueur, £9 for 70cl, Iceland stores

Got a penchant for passionfruit martini? Made with real passionfruit juice and natural flavours, Apollo is the perfect liqueur base for a homemade version of the classic cocktail: take 50ml Apollo, 25ml vanilla vodka, 10ml sugar syrup, 10ml freshly squeezed lime and the pulp of half a passion fruit, shake hard, strain into a chilled coupe and ta-da!
