Baking: Sweet start for Newmarket's new cake brand
Rediscovering a love of baking in lockdown, Newmarket's Olivia Horncastle decided to go pro - and so Liv A Little Bakery was born. . .
When lockdown shut off her social life, Newmarket’s Olivia Horncastle turned to her favourite hobby - baking - to pass the time. Getting rave reviews from friends and neighbours for her doorstep drops of Millionaire’s Brownies, the 20-something quickly realised baking could be more than a way of whiling away the hours: it could be a business.
And so, in June, Liv A Little Bakery was born. Known for boxes of brownies, blondies, tiffins and lemon drizzle, Liv A Little also offers a popular line of whole cheesecakes; along with 50/50 boxes of Bakewell Blondies and Biscoff Tiffin, the Biscoff Cheesecake sells week in, week out.
“Liv A Little aims to offer bakes which are affordable, delicious and plentiful: I was keen to offer tasty and tempting treats whilst not holding back on the size either,” adds Olivia.
With orders coming largely via Instagram, where her full menu of bakes is pinned, Olivia is already thinking about how to expand. “We have been taste testing lots of new ideas and toppings, including Sticky Cornflake and Crunchy Salted Caramel,” she says. “Whatever we add to the menu it’s sure to taste delicious!”
