Sustainable Diva: The dream at-home spa day

This month, Caroline S. Asante - Velvet’s eco fashion, beauty and lifestyle columnist - puts together the perfect DIY home spa day, using only products which are natural, British and cruelty-free

Lockdown has presented us all with many serious challenges. The importance of our mental and physical wellbeing is paramount, as is self-grooming, which is very much a part of retaining a positive outlook and self-esteem.

It is June and the weather continues to bless us with glorious sunshine whilst non-essential stores remain closed. This,of course, includes your favourite beauty, nail, wax and hair salon. Months of non-priority self-grooming can leave your self-image in the pits.

However, we are still, most of the time indoors. So why not treat yourself and save money by doing your own DIY home spa day, all with British-made products, including a good book and organic, locally made chocolate? Here’s how to get back on the self-grooming track, lift your mood, save money and do something nice for yourself. . .

Facial Spa

Step 1: Cleanse & Tone

Begin with your regular facial cleanser suitable for your skin type. Make sure you thoroughly clean, rinse and pat dry your face.

PH balance your skin with Radiant Glow Botanical Facial Toner. This is my favourite daily facial toner right now. With aloe vera and witch hazel, it is 100% natural and alcohol-free, therefore mild and suitable for all skin types. Use after cleaning to remove any traces of make-up or impurities, leaves skin really soft and smooth.

Step 2: Deep Cleanse & Repair

Try a Green Tea Mask followed by Marula Facial Oil, both by Jamila Organics. The face mask is lovely and smells divine.

Infused with green tea, together with shea butter and dead sea mud, it helps draw out impurities and excess oil, leaving your skin fresh and clean. Green tea is also believed to help reduce premature ageing and improve elasticity of the skin.

Next put a few drops of the facial oil into your palm and apply. It contains marula and apricot oil, both high in vitamins C and E, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Step 3: Moisturise

Designed to enhance, rejuvenate and help boost your skin's natural radiance, moisturise with Hydrate Shea and Macadamia Face Revival Creamby Bare Faced Skin. This lightweight treatment will leave skin sumptuous, helping to reduce skin dehydration caused by trans-epidermal water loss and protect against pollution. For maximum benefit, let skin breathe and absorb the nutrients given in this facial. Do not apply make up for the next 12 to 24 hours.

Finally, don’t forget to moisturize your body. Feed your skin with essential amino acids and vitamins to ensure lasting skin suppleness. For all over hydration try Dreamy Fields Organic Body Oil by Miss Organics.
