Style Awards: Meet partner brand Fairfax & Favor
The Style Awards, Newmarket’s search for best-dressed racegoer, returns to the town’s historic Rowley Mile course this month. Velvet gets to know great British brand Fairfax & Favor, new prize partner for the autumn event, by chatting to in-house designer Lauren Price - who, also a fashion influencer, joins the judging panel on October 7
How would you describe the Fairfax & Favor style?
We design with both town and country in mind, creating timeless, high-quality pieces for anyone with a passion for style and adventure. Fairfax & Favor is perfect for a smart/casual lifestyle.
We love the 'buy now, love forever' ethos of the brand. What makes the pieces timeless? It's about the quality of both design and end-product, isn't it?
Our products are designed to be loved forever, therefore care and attention to detail is applied at every step, whether that’s in the design process, sourcing of high-quality raw materials, stitching, hardware, lining. . . Every element of every Fairfax & Favor product is handcrafted with the finest artistry, ready to level up your year-round wardrobe with game-changing verve.
With the design, we ensure a thorough foundation of research, testing and functionality whilst using high-quality materials and subtle branding, so each piece is transeasonal and timeless. It is also important to us to not follow trends but ensure we are still fashion-focused. Another important initiative is that the majority of our boots are designed so they can be resoled, meaning they will take you to many a race day for many years.
What's your best-seller for both him and for her? And why do customers love it?
The Regina is our classic boot: it has been with us from the beginning and has been the bestseller for all this time. We update the boot every season with new colourways and subtle improvements, but never the fundamental design - it’s a classic, timeless piece so there is no need to change. We offer the Regina in three calf fittings, three heel heights and in eight foot sizes, so there is a Regina for everyone. Styled up or dressed down, these must-have boots are your wardrobe saviour for any race day.
For men, our Chelsea boot is the perfect example of marrying functionality with fun design features; the boot is super-comfortable, being crafted from soft suede, with subtle hints of branding with the chevron-shaped navy elastic and antique brass hardware. The Chelsea is a true all-rounder, equally as at home walking through the countryside as it is smart or casual in the city.
You have an incredible fan base! There's a real sense of community among the Fairfax & Favor shoppers, isn't there? What cultivates that, would you say?
The Fairfax and Favor club page is a real hub for support and inclusivity; it allows a platform for people to ask questions, offer advice, share outfit inspirations - but above all support each other with a combined love of the brand.
I believe this ethos stems from the two founders, Marcus and Felix, who embody this themselves and have not only created a brand but a friendly, family feeling. This sense of friendliness and helpfulness can be seen first-hand in our stores, whether it's in the picturesque town of Holt, the historic town of Stamford, or our latest store in Helmsley.
We're delighted to have Fairfax & Favor as a prize partner for the Newmarket Style Awards this autumn. What are your top tips for pulling together a winning race-day outfit?
A mix of practicality and personality will always be a winning combination. Autumn will be the perfect time to retire your sandals and wedges and step into your autumn attire and boots are the perfect way for your own style to shine through, especially with the F&F interchangeable tassels. Tassels are also the perfect way to colour-coordinate your outfit. We will be looking to see a well-thought-out, matching look, layered with individuality. There’s no need to freeze to be fashionable: a pair of long boots, a smart matching bag and our signature leather gloves will see you looking and feeling the part.
The brand has a connection with horseracing, doesn't it? Introduce us to Mayheblucky, the Fairfax & Favor syndicate's new horse in training?
We could not be more excited to have launched our Fairfax and Favor Racing Club, a syndicate giving our customers the opportunity to own part of a racehorse and giving you loads of fab perks including access to the Owners’ Enclosure, your share of the prize money and exclusive Fairfax & Favor Racing Club tassels.
Mayheblucky is a gorgeous chap with an exciting future ahead of him. Son of Libertarian, he’s built to be a chaser but will start his career over hurdles. He’s very athletic and has a kind and genuine eye – talent crossed with a great attitude!
Billy Aprahamian has been a friend of the brand for years, often seen on the point-to-point track in Fairfax & Favor sponsored breeches, so when we heard he was branching out to become a trainer we were very keen to support.
We've been peeking at the 'coming soon' page on your site: that quilted Mini Windsor is *amazing*. . . What can you tell us about this A/W's new releases?
The autumn/winter range is super-exciting and we cannot wait to share it with you over the coming months. We took inspiration from the Scottish moors for our colour palette, which you will see in some of our best-selling products this autumn/winter. We are so pleased you loved the first sneak peek of our quilted range; this is a new fresh take on some of our classic designs, stay tuned to see some matching shoes and boots to go with the Mini Windsor...
What does the future look like for Fairfax & Favor?
We are a young and dynamic lifestyle brand that plans to continue to expand, and we have lots of amazing collections lined up which include a plethora of new products and categories. In the coming years we will continue to champion rural vogue!
