Meet the Festive Makers: The Jeweller
Cambridgeshire-based jewellery and accessories brand Victoria Louise launched in 2019 with eponymous designer Victoria creating opulent and dazzling pieces perfect for festive parties and presents
What inspired you to become a jeweller?
I’ve always been creatively minded, and through the restlessness of not having a creative outlet, I decided to focus my attention on learning the art of jewellery-making, using various techniques and skills.
How has the business evolved?
It initially began as a hobby, creating jewellery for family and friends, then selling at local craft fairs, soon progressing as I ventured into the world of wedding accessories. Having noticed how unexciting and tired bridal accessories were, I desperately wanted to shake things up a little and create contemporary accessories for the modern bride!
Victoria Louise launched as a British accessories label offering luxe jewellery and couture headwear for the occasion and bridal market.
Can you tell us a little about your lovely local lifestyle store ADORN?
Having outgrown my home studio, in 2021 an opportunity arose to take on a shop space, so with my love for small independent shops and admiration for other creatives’ work I set upon launching independent British lifestyle store ADORN. From here, I make and sell my jewellery, alongside a wonderful collection of curated goods including clothing, homeware, accessories and gifts, all of which are handpicked for their design, functionality and form.
I’m so incredibly proud as ADORN recently won a Muddy Stilettos award for Best Lifestyle Store in Cambridgeshire & Suffolk!
What type of jewellery do you specialise in?
I would say that I’m best known for creating ‘statement’ earrings and modern hair accessories for occasions and brides. However, I’m now focusing on a little change in direction by looking to create a collection of ‘everyday’ transitional jewellery, specialising in charm-focused designs and layered necklaces.
How would you describe your style?
My designs are timeless and eclectic, antique-inspired but with a fresh, modern aesthetic.
I love having the creative freedom to express my individuality! Creating versatile jewellery to reflect personality is so enjoyable.
Being a female founder of two businesses is hard work but I wouldn’t want to do anything else! Having a shop space full of exciting curated goods from amazing small independent brands and talented creatives was always the dream. Supporting other designer/makers work and keeping the High Street alive with gorgeous little indie businesses is incredibly important to me, which is why I also stock my jewellery in other independent shops around the country too.
Which of your creations would make the perfect wow-factor jewellery for a glitzy Christmas party?
My ‘Dusk’ statement earrings would be the perfect Christmas party accessory as they deliver instant wow! Luxe cut glass crystals add a touch of sparkle, while the huge freshwater pearls bring the lustre.
And which piece would you like to see beneath your Christmas tree this year?
I would love to see my sterling silver T-bar necklace as it’s a classic, staple piece which is perfect for layering up with other pieces or simply worn solo.
