Fashion: Press refresh for spring with Cuckoo

Signs of spring are in the air and fashion is about to change. Hayley Butler of Cuckoo offers a taste of what’s to come

Bright and beautiful

We are all really excited about the spring collections. Go bold, go bright, classic stripes and monochrome all feature for the early months – a joyful way to welcome spring. Masai, Thought Clothing, Pom Amsterdam and Nice Things from Barcelona all have amazing prints, and stripes feature on the knitwear from our new and slow-fashion label By Basics from Denmark. A little later in the season, just as our weather begins to brighten, the Bohemian trend provides relaxed but stylish options and two brands that tick the boho box are One Season – think breezy dresses and handcrafted detail – and Dream Fashion – all floaty fabrics and easy elegance.

Wish list

My own wish list for this season includes some merino stripes from By Basics to wear with my favourite MAC jeans – anyone who has tried MAC will know they are a fabulous fit for all body shapes. I will also treat myself to a printed piece from Masai and add a layer of linen from Cut Loose. I’ll finish the look off with a cool cross-body bag from Sticks & Stones and hand-made earrings from Hazel Atkinson. I can’t wait.

Natural approach

Fast fashion has become a real worry for the future of our planet and the fashion industry has had to step up to help. When the Cuckoo team goes buying for our collections, we have started to focus on the eco credentials of a company. We also focus on buying natural materials that feel good to wear and are kinder to the planet, such as pure wool, organic cotton and bamboo. We then consider pieces that are well made, flattering and have versatility. We want our customers to reach for these pieces in their wardrobe and wear them and love them time and time again.

Light touch

Cuckoo loves colour and texture and we are well known for collections that play with colours, prints, texture and cut. This season brings some beautiful colour combinations in fine merino wool jumpers from By Basics and cotton and cashmere knitwear from UK label Cash-Ca – both with a strong emphasis on quality and design. There are some very interesting shapes too. Linen pieces are always a popular choice once it gets a little warmer. Linen is such a beautiful fabric, and we are looking forward to a range of pieces arriving any minute from GR Nature, By Basics, Cut Loose and Grizas.

Fragrance and accessories

We have spent considerable time sourcing accessories and gifts for Cuckoo and are so happy to have now extended this part of our range. Customers will be able to find some beautiful natural body care products and fragrance – perfect for a wellbeing treat or a gift. We choose formulas that are lovingly made here in the UK and have collections from Plum & Ashby, Wilder Botanics and Norfolk Natural Living. Our spring accessories include quirky, printed scarves, fab footwear, great bags and lovely jewellery that bring something special to any outfit.
