Fashion: Perfect your preloved style with Cambridge’s Trash Chic

Showcasing looks from Cambridge’s Trash Chic, the preloved online and pop-up boutique, model Maggie K de Monde proves that fashions may come and go, but personal style is forever. . .

Net Worth
Nod to current trends - in this case: tulle skirts, bomber jackets, daytime sequins - but wear them your way. Here, a graphic tee, layered chains and splash of leopard add individuality.

More is More
Dopamine dressing is no myth: pair a print-clash dress with a pimped denim jacket and you can’t fail to feel brighter. Pick out your key colours with the accessories - a bag, boots, tights.

Sizing Up
The oversized silhouette is going nowhere. A good tip: balance a slouchy top with a slimline bottom - a slip skirt or skinny trousers - and ground the outfit with a bold boot.

Crop Tops
A camo jacket always looks cool. Elevate the look by wearing it cropped, customised and layered with a metallic tee, a black net and a slouchy boot.

Animal Print
So we’re all agreed: leopard is a neutral. If you’re not buying into the ‘mob wife’ aesthetic, give the print an edge with a statement silky bomber, a clatter of bangles and a biker boot.

Yes Pleats
Floral prints (big, bold tropicals), textured detail (frills, ruffles, pleating) and free-flowing dresses (shirred waists, billowing buffet cuts) all continue to trend for spring/summer. For a grown-up take, choose a print with a dark ground and use accessories - a belt, a boot - to shape your own silhouette.

Sparkle and Shine
Reflective finishes, from slinky silks and satins to glitterball sequins, can lift both your look and your mood. Dial up the elegance with a monochrome palette and an artsy print.

Feelgood Fashion
Proving the point that planet-friendly fashion can be both fun and fabulous, Trash Chic founder Jane Horwood is bringing her peerless pop-up preloved boutique to Cambridge’s Grand Arcade this month.
Throughout the weekend of March 24 and 25, you’ll find Re-fashion and Fizz up on the first floor. With the fizz being provided by Bubbly Bandits, the Cambridge-based wine company which specialises in Italian bubbles, it’s a chance to shop Trash Chic’s rails; browse, buy and even make your own headwear with Millhouse Millinery; and invest in rejuvenated homewares from Knapp House Design - all while enjoying a glass of something sparkling. . .
Available to pre-book now, personal styling sessions are also running all weekend. On the Saturday, Kath Goodwin - who styled the looks for these pages, has designed for London Fashion Week and dressed everyone from body-positive model Ashley Graham to Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis - is offering 45-minute appointments.
On Sunday, Cambridge Style Coach Lucy will be in the styling space: having honed her skills over 25 years in the industry, working in both Japan and Hong Kong, she helps women “use transformational power of the way they dress to feel confident in themselves and express who they are in every aspect of their life”. Again, the sessions with Lucy run for 45 minutes.
All the styling sessions - priced £22.38 each and bookable by searching ‘Trash Chic’ on eventbrite.co.uk - include a complimentary glass of Bubbly Bandits fizz.
Re-fashion and Fizz will then return to Grand Arcade on June 29 and 30 for a special festival edition; on September 28 and 29 for an autumn/winter showcase; and on December 14 and 15 for festive dressing and gifting.
