Fashion News: Clothes and jewels to wear forever
Sustainable shopping: where to buy preloved clothes for a good cause and locally made jewellery to treasure forever
While enjoying an evening cruise (online type), I happened across Oxfam’s shop and what treasures to be had. Oxfam has embraced the passion for sustainable fashion and its pre-loved clothes are categorised, photographed and presented clearly making it easier than ever to find fashion gems. Everything you spend supports the charity’s work so you can make a difference while treating yourself. A short visit unearthed some rather smart brands including Karen Millen, Reiss, Agnes B, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana and Armani. While you’re there check out the collectables and gifts too. Lucy Parker is an independent jewellery designer maker and diamond setter who specialises in bold, sculptural, hand-carved jewellery. Based in Cambridgeshire, Lucy studied Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins in London and worked as a designer at a bespoke jewellery company in Cambridgeshire before going solo to focus on creating her own brand.
A strong focus on traditional craftsmanship informs all of her designs. Nostalgia is the inspiration behind her latest collection ‘Blank Canvas’ which takes familiar shapes such as hoop earrings and signet rings and plays with their form and shape to create clean, minimalist sculptures using recycled silver and gold vermeil. The resulting collection is elegant and enchating.
Prices start from £59 for a stacking silver ring. Customisations are available, including adding stones and engraving, and resizing of rings.Special commission pieces are also on the menu. Lucy's jewellery is currently available at Elegant Atelier , Rose Crescent, Cambridge.
