Beauty: Here are the Task Masters

They’re cute, clever and deliver extra beauty bang for your buck. Meet this season’s top make-up multitaskers, writes Alice Ryan

Glossier Bubblewrap Eye & Lip Plumping Cream, £23, glossier.com

Super gentle yet also super effective, Bubblewrap gives eyes and lips a soothing, smoothing boost of moisture, thanks to hero hydrators hyaluronic acid, squalane and avocado oil. Because the water-in-oil emulsion is so lightweight, it doesn’t leave a sticky finish or pill under make-up, making it an ideal primer.

Olio E Osso Balm in Spring, £27, Pure Source, Bridge Street, Cambridge

If your skin is emerging from winter a little lacklustre, this small-but-mighty balm is a must. Formulated with natural fruit and nut oils, along with beeswax, it delivers hydration, nourishment, a subtle sheen and a gorgeous flush of colour, too. Sweep across lips and cheekbones and for instant glow.

Body Shop Honey Bronze Drops of Sun, £12, Body Shop, Petty Cury, Cambridge and Buttermarket, Bury St Edmunds

This dinky dropper bottle combats sun-starved skin without the fear of looking TOWIE-Tangoed. Add a drop to your usual moisturiser to take the edge off a winter-white complexion, or mix a couple of drops with foundation for contouring purposes. Because it’s shimmer-free and cleverly buildable, the results look really natural: like your skin, just healthier.

Dear Dahlia Blooming Edition Dual Palette in Blossom Palace, £26, feelunique.com

Technically, this is a blush duo: a pair of pressed powders in complementary shades of pink, one matte and one shimmer, to use either solo or layered. But, impressively longwearing and crinkle-resistant, the powders double beautifully as eye shadows, tapping into spring/summer’s trend for rosy lids.

Beauty Pie One Palette Wonder, £6.17 to members (typical price £35), beautypie.com

It’s a godsend, this palette. Containing a pair of blushers, a bronzer, a highlighter and three eyeshadows, all under a single slimline lid, every handbag should have one. Warm-toned and natural, the colours are wonderfully wearable and, spanning both mattes and shimmers, lend themselves to both day and night looks.

Nudestix Magnetic Lip Plush Paint in Waikiki Rose, £25, selfridges.com

Nudestix is famous for its make-up multitaskers, notably the prettily tinted eye, lip and cheek balm Nudies Bloom (a long-time Velvet favourite). New for SS20 is Plush Paint: again designed for eyes, lips and cheeks, it delivers a wash of feather-light, velvet-touch colour at the dot of a wand and swish of a fingertip.

Too Faced Born This Way Turn Up The Light Palette in Tan, £34, Debenhams, The Grafton, Cambridge and cultbeauty.com

Containing baked powders in three finishes - luminous metallic Glow, low sheen Soft Focus and seriously sparkly Dazzle - Turn Up The Light is a tool kit for creating glowy skin and defining contours: use Glow and Dazzle to draw attention and Soft Focus to detract it. It’s far from a one-trick pony, though: the powders look lush on eyelids, dusted over lippy and even tapped onto collarbones.
