Beauty: The five top makeup trends to wear this spring
Soft-focus skin, just-bitten lips, neutral nails, feline eyes and a swish of shimmer: this year’s top makeup trends are brilliantly wearable, writes Alice Ryan
Metallic accents: The latest phase in the ongoing Nineties revival is a pleasingly wearable one. With silver making a notable comeback, adding subtle metallic accents to classic makeup looks - a sweep along cheekbones, a dusting across lids, a tap on the bow of the lip - makes it feel instantly fresh.
Christian Louboutin Abracadabra Le Duo Eyeshadow in Silver Spike, £40, eu.christianlouboutin.com/uk_en
MAKEUP BY MARIO Master Crystal Reflector in Quartz, £30, sephora.co.uk
Feline eyes: Cat eyes never really go out of fashion, but this year they’re bigger - literally - than ever. Wear a bold flicked-up liner solo for a cool daytime look or combine with shimmering shadow and fat, fluttery lashes for full-on glamour.
Sisley Ligne Noir Eyeliner, £53, sisley-paris.com
Stila HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara, £24, stila.co.uk
Just-kissed lips: There’s a soft edge to lips this season. Think velvety textures, slightly smudged finishes and natural, just-bitten shades. A plumping gloss is also a good call; as the trend’s title states, you’re aiming for the recently kissed look, ref every rom-com heroine ever.
Sisley Phyto-Rouge Velvet Lipstick in Beige Nude, £49, sisley-paris.com
Code8 Glaze Universal Lip Gloss in Spyglass, £28, codeeight.com
Soft-filter skin: While super-sheeny glass skin is still trending for spring, it’s set to be outpaced by a soft-focus (and, happily, sincerely flattering) finish as the year wears on. Drawing on the ‘skinification’ of makeup products, it’s achieved by light-coverage yet heavy-hitting bases which even tone, blur imperfections, warm complexions - and hydrate and protect while they’re at it.

REFY Skin Trio SPF 50, £34, refybeauty.com
Neutral nails: With the colour buffs at Pantone declaring Mocha Mousse the official shade of 2025, it’s little surprise hues of both chocolate and coffee have percolated through to beauty collections. One of the most polished ways to wear this trend is on your nails, whether you opt for a moody dark or a pretty pale version.
