Beauty: Seven scents to take you places this summer

Capable of conjuring time and place with a single waft, few things are as transporting as fragrance. Alice Ryan finds perfumes to take you places

Byredo Rodeo EDP, £220 for 100ml, selfridges.com: Leather, tobacco leaves, black tea and a slight but sure saltiness: one whiff of Rodeo, the latest EDP from Byredo, and you’re whisked to the wild beauty of a Montana ranch. With violet and vetiver softening its edges, the scent aims to capture the “thrill and intensity” of the Rodeo. Fans of TV’s Yellowstone form an orderly queue: shero Beth Dutton would definitely wear this with her slipdress and spurs.

Penhaligon’s Daphne Bouquet EDP, £175 for 100ml, penhaligons.com: Created in collaboration with the gardens at Highgrove, private home to King Charles and Queen Camilla, this just-launched EDP is an olfactory tribute to The Stumpery, with its deliciously cool shade, lush mosses and ferns and sweet daphne flowers. Light and bright yet warm and cosseting, uplifting grapefruit and thyme, soothing lavender, daphne and rose, and grounding moss and cedarwood combine to mood-boosting effect.
