Beauty Notebook: Here's your winter survival guide...
Thanks to the arctic temperatures, howling winds and seemingly perpetual damp, winter can wreak havoc with both hair and skin. Here are three beauty superheroes to help your extremities survive till spring.
One Ocean Beauty Blue Light + Protection Mist, £46, net-a-porter.com
This is a seriously clever product. Designed to protect your skin while you’re both inside and out - by staving off blue light damage from screens and fighting the twin nemeses of dry skin: central heating and winter weather - its hydrating, strengthening formula contains active marine ingredients, including Celtic Sea algae, and no parabens, sulfates, phthalates or synthetic fragrance. It’s vegan-friendly and comes in a recyclable bottle, too. Spritz three times a day for tangibly more supple skin.
Hair Rituel by Sisley Pre-Shampoo Purifying Mask, £71, sisley-paris.co.uk
Described as “a genuine hair reset”, this pre-shampooing mask promises to protect the hair and scalp from internal and external stressors, such as fatigue, poor diet and air pollution. Containing white clay to cleanse, java tea to rebalance, moringa peptides to protect, cotton proteins to strengthen, and artichoke leaf, loved for its antioxidant properties, for softness and shine, it leaves hair looking and feeling happier and healthier. It’s pricey, yes, but, as always with Sisley products, a little will go a long way.
Bespoke Evolve Organic Beauty Facial, £20, John Lewis & Partners, Grand Arcade, Cambridge
As regular readers will know, we’re big fans of the organic British beauty brand Evolve at Velvet. Kind to skin, planet and pocket, it ticks all the boxes. Brilliantly, Evolve’s top Beauty Guide, Amber Kear, is coming to town to host a two-day January Glow event, offering bespoke facials for just £20. To reserve a slot on either Saturday, January 18 or Sunday, January 19, call The Beauty Society desk on (01223) 222853.
If the eyes are the window to the soul, Charlotte Liddiard is the woman to open them. Having relocated her successful CSL Beautiful business from King’s Lynn to Great Shelford at the end of last year, she specialises in brows and lashes.
“To make the business one of a kind and to stand out from the crowd, I decided to specialise in brow and lash treatments and have trained to the highest level,” says Charlotte, a Master Stylist in HD Brows. “Each treatment can be tailored to the individual and can be as natural or defined as the client wishes.”
Currently offering HD Brows, Brow Lamination and the LVL Lash Lift, she is looking to take on a lash extension specialist soon, and to offer gel nails, too. Gift vouchers and the HD Brows makeup range are also available.
