Beauty News: Fresh Start
To ease the transition from winter to spring, it’s time to slot some beauty-boosters into your routine. Velvet welcomes three new releases, all designed to bring out the best in your skin
One Ocean Beauty Blue Algae Exfoliating + Detox Mask, £63, net-a-porter.com
It may come in a small pot, but this mask is mighty. Marine salt detoxifies, coconut shell sloughs dead skin, and a complex of oceanic actives, notably nutrient-dense blue spirulina algae, evens, brightens and provides a big hit of hydration, too. Used twice-weekly at night - apply, leave for 15 minutes max, wipe away - it will comfort as well as deep cleanse.
Clarins Body Partner, £40, John Lewis & Partners, Grand Arcade, Cambridge
Thanks to Clarins’ ground-breaking PhytoStretchComplex, which combines extracts of organic green banana (known to support collagen synthesis) and tiger grass (said to aid the formation of elastic fibres), this body cream is formulated to salve stretch-marked skin. A single application leaves skin feeling firmer and smoother and, with repeated use, marks should start to reduce in colour and size - impressive.
D’Alchemy Spectacular Hand Therapy, £29, dalchemyskincare.uk
Hydrating, protecting, anti-ageing - this hand cream does it all. Rich and luxurious without being greasy, it’s a dream to apply, absorbing immediately and leaving skin looking plumped and feeling comforted. The formula, packed with natural ingredients known variously to nourish, strengthen and stimulate regeneration (damask rose, witch hazel, essential oils of mandarin, grapefruit and sandalwood), leaves behind a fairy-fine protective film which lasts for hours. It’s brilliant.
