Beauty: Happy Holidays - editor Alice Ryan's must-take holiday essentials

Evolve Climate Veil SPF 20, from £15 for 25ml, John Lewis & Partners, Grand Arcade, Cambridge

I’ve been using this product every day for more than a month and it’s a winner. Part of the fast-growing makeup-meets-skincare movement, it delivers a subtle tint - just enough to give skin a slight sunkissed glow - along with mineral-based, broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Though I can’t attest to them yet, it also promises anti-ageing powers, thanks largely to polyphenol-rich lingonberry stem cells. Plus, like all Evolve products, it’s almost entirely natural - 99.6% natural, in fact.

Twist & Spritz, from £10, The Fragrance Shop, Jackson Square Shopping Centre, Bishop’s Stortford

Accommodating 8ml of perfume - that’s around 100 sprays - in a cute, compact and lightweight case, the Twist & Spritz allows you to take your favourite fragrance on holiday, without having to cart the whole bottle. Slide out the inner vial, place the valve over your perfume’s nozzle, and you can swiftly decant a hand-luggage-friendly volume. Brilliant.

d’Alchemy Essential Body Balm, from £15 for 15ml, dalchemyskincare.uk

Focused on anti-ageing formulas, d’Alchemy has just arrived at the plant-based beauty party. A rich yet pleasingly ungreasy balm, this body moisturiser is ideal for sun-and-sea-dried skin: as well as soothing and hydrating, it leaves behind a super-fine protective film, which makes limbs look instantly polished. Chock-full of plant extracts said to fight ageing free-radicals - mandarin, grapefruit, rosemary, pine - it’s vegan-friendly, not tested on animals and also smells scrumptious.

Pomegranate & Cassis Elasticizer, £35 for 150ml, philipkingsley.co.uk

Originally created for Audrey Hepburn, to keep her locks looking luscious despite constant on-set styling, Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer still has a celeb following today: Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet and Georgia Jagger are all reported fans. A pre-shampoo treatment, you apply it to wet hair, cover with the shower cap supplied and leave for a minimum 10 minutes, maximum overnight, for healthier, happier tresses. Scented with perky pomegranate, cassis and orange, this recent iteration of the original is perfect for salving swimming-stressed hair.

Too Cool for School Coconut Milky Mist, £18.50 for 80ml, Boots stores

Soaking up the sun is lovely. A shiny forehead and sweaty upper lip are not. That’s where this nifty face mist comes in: billed as “the secret to a permanently dewy, refreshed visage”, you can spritz before or after makeup, then top up whenever you fancy during the day. Formulated with 87% pure Brazilian coconut water, famously rich in vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, the mist is ultra-fine and absorbs swiftly, leaving your face both looking and feeling refreshed.

Kat Von D Crush: Technicolor Crayon Set, £26, Debenhams, The Grafton, Cambridge

Kat Von D’s newest Crush - for the uninitiated: Crushes are one-time, strictly limited-edition releases that go like the clappers - is this trio of bold, bright, multi-purpose pigment sticks. If your summer involves a beach bar, a festival, or just going out-out here at home, you *need* Electric Blue, Bubblegum and Wild Orange in your life. You can use them to line your eyes, colour your lips or graffiti your cheeks - whatever your preference, you’re guaranteed unrivalled payoff and lasting power.

Nude by Nature Beach Glow Liquid Highlighter, £19, John Lewis & Partners, Cambridge

If you’re trying to whittle down your baggage weight, this one-for-all highlighter is just the job. Mix a drop with your usual base for all-over glow, or use it alone to create an eye-catching shimmer in strategic spots. There are three shades; being a fair maiden, even *with* a tan, I favour the pretty, pearly Moonlight. A light, gel-like formula, enriched with moisturising vitamin E and avocado oil, it’s easy on the skin.

Nude by Nature Moisture Shine Lipstick, £20, John Lewis & Partners, Cambridge

As much as I love mattes for everyday, a shiny lip is somehow synonymous with summer holidays: fun, fresh, swift to sweep on and comfy to wear. Like all Nude by Nature products, Moisture Shine contains only natural ingredients and no nasties; as well as delivering rich colour and a lovely sheen, it moisturises (courtesy of shea butter and jojoba oil) and protects (key ingredient kakadu plum is known for its antioxidant properties). The shade selection is lovely, too: I’d recommend pretty Dusty Rose for daytime and up-a-gear Garnet for night.
