Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Champagne Lanson Ladies Day at the July Festival, Newmarket along with the Velvet team and was treated with the glamour, energy and excitement that the event brings. Armed with a camera, we set out to create a special ‘street-style’ page for next month’s Velvet magazine, featuring the most stylish men and women at Ladies Day.
The first thing that stood out was the extreme amount of people, all dressed to impress, with each outfit more stylish than the one before it. Common choices were fabulous hats and fascinators, emblazoned with feathers, sequins and flowers; fabulously cut dresses and the highest shoes i’ve ever seen. For the men, a smart suit with luxurious ties and shades were common, along with an obligatory copy of the ‘Racing Post’ in hand.
The energy at the racecourse was electric, and I’m sure the glorious sunshine had something to do with it, making Thursday the ideal day for fun at the races. Those who weren’t watching at the course were either entering the prestigious ‘Best Dressed Lady’ award, with prizes such as a £500 gift pack from Grand Arcade, Cambridge. The winner was the fashionable Courteney Welland, wearing a gorgeous French Connection dress with a luxurious Chanel bag and Christian Louboutin heels. Lucky Courteney’s prize was a £500 gift pack from the Grand Arcade in Cambridge, including beautiful pendants from Azendi and Swarovski, a £100 hat from John Lewis and a £50 voucher for the Sanctuary Spa. And to keep those celebrations going, she also won a year’s supply of Champagne Lanson from the July Festival sponsors!
Of course, we spotted Courteney’s winning outfit as soon as she arrived at the racecourse and she will be featured alongside many other stylish ladies and gentlemen in next month’s Velvet magazine. Don’t miss it!
