Love Bites

If aphrodisiacs were good enough for the Gods, then they are good enough for us modern day mortals.

Claims that certain foods stimulate sex drive are still being studied by researches, however it is possible to increase the libido by eating foods that enhance the levels of vitamins, minerals and hormones in the body.

Push aside for one day the not so ideal foreplay of exhausting work load, family stressors, caffeine fuelled technology evenings and instead turn up the heat in the kitchen and kick start your senses, increase your hormone levels and really get your blood pumping with the following foods for a night of Valentine’s Day Fun – Bon Appetite!

Watermelons: Bet you have never heard of this one!
Researchers have found that watermelon creates similar affects that Viagra does. Containing citrulline (an amino acid) watermelon is converted to Arginine, which boosts relaxation in the blood vessels and ultimately increases blood flow to the right areas!

Hot Chiles: It was reported on the Discovery Health website that the ingredients that make hot peppers hot stimulate the production of endorphins that help prepare the body for sex.

Asparagus: Full of vitamin E, which helps both men and women produce testosterone, a hormone that stimulates sex drives. Eating asparagus for three days has the most powerful affect according to the Vegetarian Society!

Bananas: Bananas contain potassium and riboflavin, which help stimulate the production of testosterone in the body. Low levels of these nutrients have been linked to infertility.

Dark Chocolate: Contains serotonin and phenylethylamine that boost your mood and mimic the brain chemistry of a person in love!  - I didn’t put this in for an excuse to eat chocolate (honest!)

Celery: I sing celery’s praises when it comes to weight loss but apparently it also helps boost sex drive. It contains androsterone, a hormone that is released through male perspiration, which is said to turn women on! Strange or true – I don’t know - but celery gets a thumbs-up from me!

Pumpkin Seeds: Loaded with Zinc which is known to increase testosterone, and in turn sexual desire. In several studies, zinc had shown improvements in potency, libido, and frequency of intercourse. They are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help increase levels of hormone like substances that play a key role in the sexual organs.

Avocado: The Aztecs named this food the ‘testicle tree’ (little fact!). It is rich in vitamin B6 which increases male hormone production and potassium, and also helps regulate the female thyroid gland. Therefore increasing the libido levels in both men and women.

Maca: Not so well know, Maca is a cruciferous vegetable. It is hailed as a superfood for libido in the world of sexual health. It contains high levels of minerals, enzymes and all the essential amino acids, which is essential for libido bringing health, vitality and sexuality in both males and females.
