‘Dragons Den’ Comes to Forest Heath
Students from Mildenhall College of Technology and Newmarket College took part in a special ‘Dragons Den’ event last month, battling it out to win a series of work placements.
Held at the British Racing School, the event welcomed team of students to think like entrepreneurs and design a promotional gift idea for the global business, Computerlinks, who are currently based in Newmarket, to help them promote their new web portal www.comparetheware.com.
Briefed just one week before the project, the teams were asked to outline their ideas and prepare a short presentation before a final six teams were selected for the final.
Asked to present their ideas to a selected audience of local business people and panel of ‘Dragons’, the quality of work proved outstanding.


Dragons Councillor Chris Barker (Member Champion for Economic Development – Forest Heath District Council), John Treby (MD – Cubiq Design Ltd, Newmarket), Julie Eden (Business Owner – Coffee and Co, Newmarket and Secretary of the Newmarket Retailers Association), Matthew Moon (Financial Director – Unisurge, Newmarket) and Nigel Ankers (Financial Director – Computerlinks, Newmarket) continually praised the students throughout.
“The Dragon’s Den competition was a great way to witness emerging talents from the local area and I felt extremely privileged to have been involved,” revealed John Treby of Cubiqdesign.
Deliberating for over 30 minutes the Dragon’s finally revealed Team NKT as the winners, comprising of a year 10 student from Newmarket College Bayley Faulkes-Anstee who took on the task by himself.
Now set to work with Computerlinks to develop his ideas, Bayley looks forward to seeing his dreams become a reality.
