Chewing the Fashion Fad

I made a promise to myself for 2012. I had to get over a phobia that manifested itself over the period of 2011. And that phobia (which to others may be the beginning to an new adventure) was packing.

It came to my attention that packing clothes for my travels was something that just boggled my mind and ran chills down my spine.

The pinnacle of this absurdity was highlighted on my most recent trip to the beautiful mountains of Greece last December.

I arrived at this rustic setting in the ragged mountains all revved up and very ready to glamorise myself.

Yet, to my despair, I unpacked... only to find that the only bottoms I had brought to wear were the jeans I had on!

Nooooo… and as I started to pull everything out of the suitcase the nightmare got worse.

I remembered ‘THE’ dress for the wedding… phew! But, packed my navy tights instead of black.

I remembered ‘THAT’ oh so important sparkly jumper for the pre wedding drinks party ... Great! But, I forgot to pack my skinny black trousers to wear with it!

How, could I, get it so wrong!?

After a small ponder, a few tears and a little ouzo, I reflected on my habits and started to analyse my mistakes.

So, my dear velvet ladies I thought I would share these HUGE mistakes with you so that NO ONE has to experience the humiliation, but better than this have peace of mind that you have everything you need to ensure you have the time of your life, so here goes:

1. Always over pack! There is absolutely nothing wrong with having too much choice.

2. Never ever, ever, ever pack after having indulged in a few glasses of wine. Because skiing in your bikini really doesn’t seem like a good idea.

3. Make a list. Come on… we do this for pretty much everything else, one extra list won’t hurt.

4. Always, always check what amenities your accommodation provides. If there isn’t a spa, you will need to have remembered to visit your beauty therapist for the all-essential waxing the week before!

5. Don’t be afraid to pull out your suitcase a week before. And start loading up from then. This will distil some of the pre-packing nerves and perhaps even give you an opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine the night before you fly.

So this is it ladies, I have succumbed to a New Years resolution after all.
