Debuted at 2009 Geneva Motor Show in March, the 2010 Volkswagen Polo was chosen for Car of the Year 2010

The new Polo is now in its fifth generation. Following its launch over 34 years ago, it remains the largest and most technically advanced car in the supermini market. No other car in this class has  such a mature and high-end image as the new Polo. It remains true to the brand’s core values of safety, reliability, quality and value for money, and still looks every bit as Polo as the first model. 

Despite the increase in size, the Polo is lighter than the model it replaces by 7.5 percent, leading to improved fuel economy and emissions. In a break from the previous Polo line-up, the new generation is offered in four different trim levels. The new range consists of S, Moda (which is designed to appeal to a younger audience) with SE and SEL at the top of the range. The GTI and BlueMotion models will follow later in 2010. All models offer a high level of standard specification including airbags, ABS and ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) with Hill Hold Control.

The new Polo stands for German engineering craftsmanship and superior cutting edge technology. At the same time it is a fresh, youthful and really cool car! 

The Car of the Year title is one of the most prestigious and oldest awards in Europe. The last time that Volkswagen won was in 1992; back then the new third generation Golf emerged victoriously over the Opel Astra and Citroen ZX. In today’s competition, 59 jurors from 23 European countries gave their votes. The new Polo takes first place with 347 points, outpacing Toyota’s IQ model.
