Step Inside SK Clinic + Spa

Samantha Nice caught up with Laura Gahan, beauty therapist at Bury St Edmunds’ SK Clinic + Spa to hear about their extensive range of treatments and her go-to products and favourite brands…

Q: How long have you been at SK Clinic + Spa and what treatments are you trained in?

A: I joined SK Clinic + Spa in June 2016 after moving from Ireland. I studied for three years in the South of Ireland which enables me to carry out a wide variety of treatments including waxing, facials, massage and reflexology. Over the seven and half years I have been in the industry, I have gained a great insight into the beauty world from working in salons and spas in both Ireland and New York and from my ongoing training. I have recently been trained in IPL which I am really excited about starting in March.

Q: What is your favourite treatment to do for your clients?

A: I enjoy doing all treatments, but if I had to pick a favourite it would have to be facials. Pevonia facials are very relaxing treatments and achieve amazing results. This is something I have always loved about the brand. I have seen clients leave astonished with their instant results and most return for follow up treatments.

Q: What is your most popular treatment?

A: At SK Clinic + Spa we do a lot of maintenance treatments like waxing. One of our most popular being intimate waxing such as Hollywood and Brazilian. We are also very lucky to be one of the only spas/salons in the area to offer male intimate waxing which has become increasing popular over the last few years.

Q: Do you have any new treatments?

A: Pevonia strive to constantly keep up to date with their treatments, products and packaging and this means clients are getting the best treatments and products. This also keeps it very interesting for us as therapists. The most recent treatments to the list are LipRenew Plump & De-Age Treatment, and the Wellness Fusion. LipRenew Plump & De-Age treatment has an instant effect increasing lip volume, visibly smoothing the lip contour and reducing lines and wrinkles with the client achieving fuller, sexier lips. The Wellness Fusion treatment is the ultimate head to toe relaxing treatment and includes a full-body polish and 30-minute massage. It’s the perfect treatment for this time of the year to relax and unwind. The body polish rejuvenates the skin and the massage helps to unwind and de-stress.

Q: What would be your one dessert island product and why?

A: This is a very tricky question but I would have to pick Pevonia’s Soothing Propolis Concentrate. It is the one product I always go back to as I suffer with hormonal breakouts around my chin. It’s made by bees and is desensitising, decongesting, an antiseptic and antibacterial. It also works great on minor burns.

Q: What is your favourite make up brand and why?

A: My favourite make up brand is bareMinerals. It’s fantastic as it’s based on only natural ingredients found in the earth. When working in a spa it can be quite warm at times, and I find the bareMinerals make up lets my skin breathe as it is very calming and non-irritating on the skin which ensures I don’t get breakouts. I also find it lasts all day and coverage can be built up to suit your needs. It has a wide range of colours and I particularly like their lip gloss. My favourite lip gloss colour at the moment is most definitely Party Starter.

Q: What is your favourite skincare brand and why?

A: Pevonia. I have worked with the brand in a previous Spa and was very excited to be working with it again at SK. I love Pevonia’s products to work with and for my own skin. All of Pevonia’s natural products are designed to meet the needs of specific skin types and conditions.

Q: What would be your best skincare advice?

A: My number one skincare advice for everyone would be to wear a Sun Protection Factor (SPF). By simply applying an SPF, you are protecting your skin from harmful rays from our depleting ozone layer, skin cancer, brown age spots and preventing the development of wrinkled, premature ageing skin. There are two types of SPF – one chemical and the other mechanical. Pevonia opts for the mechanical product as it is far more effective in its ability to protect the skin and does not cause sensitivity as a chemical SPF could.
